The Edmoton Humane Society has had to deal with calls of pets in vehicles today, and it's shocked that pet owners aren't using common sense.

Shawna Randolph with the EHS says leaving your dog or cat inside a hot vehicle, could be be extremely dangerous.

"In just a couple of minutes, the heat inside (a vehicle) can rise to about 49 degrees celsius, meanwhile your pet has a fur coat and can also get scared not knowing what's going on with its body which can increase their anxiety and cause them to pant even more. It's just a recipe for disaster."

Randolph says, if you see an animal in distress in a hot vehicle, call the Edmonton Humane Society at 780-491-3517. (lk)
