The province is expected to have a plan finalized Tuesday for financial aid to small businesses in southern Alberta.
Finance Minister Doug Horner was in talks all day with financial institutions to work out a new program that will get small businesses on their feet as quickly as possible.
Horner says that financial institutions hold a big key in the future of the businesses damaged by the flood.
"We want to use the resources that the financial institutions have as well as the backstop of the provincial government to get them back on their feet as quickly as we can" says Horner.
Horner says time is of the essence for these businesses who need financial aid now to keep going. It's not known exactly how much damage has been done but it's believed to be in the billions of dollars. The province has pledged $1 billion to flood relief. (JSL)
