Most available ambulances were pressed into service when a thunder storm generated a wall of wind that toppled huge tipis at a camp for children in far northeast Edmonton Tuesday night.

A couple of tipis, each big enough to accomodate twenty people, were flattened by the wind shear at Our Lady Queen of Peace Ranch at 153rd Avenue near 9th Street around nine. Emergency crews searched the tents and found 21 children and adults in need of some degree of treatment. Five campers, three children and two adults, were believed to be more urgent and they were the first rushed to hospital by ambulance.

The others were taken for assessment and almost all were released after treatment. Police say the most serious injury was a broken ankle.
